Cosmetic tattooing is designed to be semi-permanent.
Different techniques and procedures have different lifespans which allow you to add colours and shape into your tattoo as you age.
The colour from the tattoo is unlikely to ever disappear completely from your skin, however over the lifespan of the tattoo it will fade dramatically.
Feather Touch Brows/Microblading
Due to their natural appearance and application, Feather Touch Brows have a 12-18 month lifespan before the colour and lines need to be sharpened up. This technique is performed with a hand tool instead of a machine which gives a shorter lifespan but more natural appearance.
You may find that your ‘hair strokes’ fade within 6 months or need a touch up at 8 months; this is normal as some people (especially the younger demographic) metabolize ink quickly, which causes fading.
Block/Powder Brows and Eyeliner
Eyebrows and eyeliner that are performed with a machine have a longer lifespan as they deposit ink into the deeper layers of the dermis compared to that of microblading/feather touch brows (which is performed with a hand tool).
These cosmetic procedures have a 3-5 year lifespan before the colour fades. Because of the nature of this type of tattoo, the shape won’t fade like that of a feather touch brow it will likely soften around the edges, but the overall shape will still be very present.
Lip tattoos are performed with the same machine as Block/Powder Brows and Eyeliner, but because lips tend to be more of a muscle they hold ink differently to skin, especially compared to the delicate skin around the eyes. Due to these reasons lip tattoos have a lifespan of 2-3 years.
In my experience, my more mature clients can wait longer until they need a touch up and this is due to the aging process and slowing of the metabolism. Some older woman may even last 10 years before they need their eyeliner touched up.
For any touch up session you should expect to pay anywhere from $200 – $350 for an hour session
All touch up procedures are at your discretion, if you feel like you don’t need or want your cosmetic tattooing touched up that is a personal choice.
